Feeding the Family: A Culinary Conversation

Please join Barrett Bookstore and Darien Library for a lively virtual conversation with three culinary legends: Melissa Clark, Jacques Pepin, and Deb Perelman. We will celebrate their current work and reflect on what it means to feed a family especially during these unprecedented times. Q & A will follow the discussion.

Melissa Clark is a food writer, cookbook author, and staff report for the New York Times Food section where she writes the popular column “A Good Appetite” and appears in a weekly cooking video series. She has published nearly 40 cookbooks, including two in 2020: Dinner in French: My Recipes by Way of France and Kid in the Kitchen: 100 Recipes and Tips for Young Home Cooks.
Jacques Pépin is world renowned as the host of his acclaimed and popular cooking programs on public television, and as a prolific author, respected instructor, and gifted artist. A former columnist for The New York Times, Pépin writes a quarterly column for Food & Wine. Pépin is the recipient of three of the French governments highest honors: he is a Chevalier de LOrdre National de la Legion d Honneur, Chevalier de LOrdre des Arts et des Lettres (1997) and a Chevalier de LOrdre du Mérite Agricole (1992). The Dean of Special Programs at The French Culinary Institute (New York), he also is an adjunct faculty member at Boston University. He is a founder of The American Institute of Wine and Food, a member of the International Association of Cooking Professionals, and is on the board of trustees of James Beard Foundation.
Deb Perelman is a food writer and the home cook, photographer, and publisher behind the wildly popular Smitten Kitchen food blog. Winner of Saveur’s Best Cooking Blog of 2011 award, Smitten Kitchen has amassed a huge following due to Perelman’s ability to translate ambitious, sophisticated flavors into easy-to-follow recipes. She’s written two New York Times bestselling cookbooks and is currently working on her third. Perelman has written for Bon Appetit, Martha Stewart Living, Parenting, and NPR.
