EVERWELL The Spirit of Volunteerism: Indirect Volunteerism

March 11, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

$25

Everwell + Impact Fairfield County have partnered for a 2021 series called The Spirit of Volunteerism, which is a series of programs that include a combination of inspiration from distinguished volunteers, education from field experts in the nonprofit sector and space to connect + network with fellow volunteers + charitable givers.

For this session, we’ll be focusing on Indirect Volunteerism, which we define as: the behind-the-scenes activities that assist an organization indirectly such as event planning, hosting a collection for needed items, fundraising, committee work, board work, administrative work, or sprucing ups of agency properties.

This Indirect Volunteerism program will be featuring Jill McCammon as our Distinguished Volunteer, and Cathy Leather Ostuw as our Field Expert.

This program’s inspiration will be brought to us by Jill McCammon, who serves on the Darien Board of Education as well as the boards of the Darien Library and the League of Women Voters. She recently volunteered on the Strategic Planning Committee and Thriving Youth Task Force for The Community Fund of Darien. Previously, Jill served as the chair of the Darien High School Building Committee; co-chair of Council of Darien School Parents (CDSP) for the 2014 – 2015 and 2015 – 2016 school years; and was a member of the Special Education Parents Advisory Committee (SEPAC). Jill has a B.A. in Spanish Literature from Dartmouth College and a master’s degree in Food Studies with a specialization in Business from NYU.

This program’s education will be led by Cathy Leather Ostuw, who is a Stamford resident and community volunteer in lower Fairfield County. She has worked as Vice President of Community Impact for United Way of Stamford (2005-2007), and Executive Director of Person-to-Person in Darien, CT (2001 – 2005). Prior to that, she worked in corporate Information Technology. She was one of the founders of, and is a current Board Member of Building One Community, and is the Treasurer for Impact Fairfield County. She has served on the board of Domus, St. John’s Community Foundation and as a Vestry Member and Warden of St. Francis Episcopal Church. Cathy currently serves as a Hospice Volunteer with Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County and as a volunteer Tax Counselor and Local Coordinator for the AARP Tax-Aide Program. Cathy has a BA in English Literature from Queens College, City University of New York, and a MS in Nonprofit Management from Milano, the New School of Management and Urban Policy, New York City. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, traveling and spending time with her 8 year old granddaughter.

$10 for members of Everwell OR Impact
$25 for non-members

All net proceeds will be donated to the charity of Jill McCammon’s choice: Reading Partners.
