Filling in the Blanks is a local nonprofit fighting childhood hunger by providing children in need with meals on the weekends. Located in Norwalk, CT, they partner with 80 local schools delivering their Weekend Meal Bags to food-insecure children in Bridgeport, Darien, Fairfield, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Westport, CT, Mt. Kisco, and Bedford Hills, NY.
Weekend Meal Program
Their Weekend Meal Bag fills in the “blank” from school lunch on Friday to school breakfast on Monday. Easy to prepare, shelf-stable foods are in each Weekend Meal Bag, providing essential nutrients children need to grow and develop. The meal bag is delivered weekly and designed to fit inside a child’s backpack for easy transport home on Fridays.
Holiday Backpack Program
Since its inception, Filling in the Blanks has had a Holiday Backpack Program as a counterpoint to their Weekend Meal Program. This initiative provides their program’s kids with a new full-size backpack during the holiday season. Filling in the Blanks fills these new backpacks with pancake mix & syrup, a new book, a new game, dental kits, and many other needed items. These sturdy backpacks will not only provide a gift to the child but remove the transportation barrier for their critical food packages between school and home.
How you can support Filling in the Blanks
Individual/Group Volunteering: Give the gift of your time. Filling in the Blanks is always looking for volunteers to organize various donation drives, help pack their Weekend Meal Bags, and volunteer for events. Interested volunteers should contact volunteer@fillingintheblanks.org.

1. Purchase an item from Filling in the Blanks’ 2021 Holiday Backpack Amazon Wish List. OR purchase an item shown here and drop it off at their warehouse, 346 Main Ave. #3A, Norwalk, CT 06851 Monday - Friday 9-4 pm. The Holiday Backpack program relies 100% on community donations.
2. Donate directly to Filling in the Blanks. No donation is too small; 99% of the food provided is purchased by Filling in the Blanks. The cost to fill a Weekend Meal Bag to feed a child for the weekend is $6.00.
